Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park

The last stop of our road trip was Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park in Moab, Utah. We used one day to see both of these because they were a little smaller. Although they are smaller, both of these parks have some out of this world amazing views. So here are some of our favorites from these two parks.

Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park is made up of a few different areas. The main ones are Island in the Sky, the Needles, and The Maze. The Maze and the Needles sections are a further drive and are a more remote section. The Maze section does require a 4 wheel drive vehicle and the Needles is more backcountry hiking and backpacking. Because they are a little more remote and we were pretty worn out from all our other hikes, we just hung out in the Island in the Sky section. Island in the Sky is the closest to Moab making it the most popular. Here are a couple of our favorite things we saw while we were there.

Mesa Arch is another iconic arch found in Moab. It is a short .5 mile easy hike, I even wore Birkenstocks for it. It is a cliffside arch with views of the canyons and the La Sal mountains. Mesa Arch is a pretty popular sunrise spot and it does get pretty busy. We didn’t go for sunrise but it was one of our first morning stops and it was pretty busy then too.

Canyonlands has a ton of overlook areas, which we were okay with. Like I mentioned earlier, we were pretty worn out from all the other hiking we had done, and overlooks meant less walking. HAHA! Green River Overlook was one of our favorites. It was a little less busy than Grand View Overlook and had a much more beautiful view in my opinion.

Dead Horse Point State Park

Since Dead Horse Point is a state park, it is much smaller and has less to see, but don’t let that stop you. This park has some of the most insane views I have ever seen. It has about a 270-degree view of the canyons and rivers winding through them. It was giving me Grand Canyon vibes on a smaller scale. I highly recommend catching a sunset here. It was absolutely stunning! As the sun went down I felt like you could see more and more detail of the canyons below.

If you are visiting Moab or Arches National Park, I highly recommend squeezing these two parks in as well. They were super easy to see and have some views that you will not want to miss, I promise! And if you are looking for other travel destinations, here are some fun spots we have loved visiting. Happy Travels my sweet friends!
