Utah Sand Dunes

Our next stop on our Ultimate Utah Roadtrip was the Little Sahara Sand Dunes. Utah has a few different options for sand dunes such as the Coral Pink Sand Dunes, White Wash Sand Dunes, and the Little Sahara Sand Dunes. Little Sahara was on the way to another destination for us so it fit in with our route perfectly. If you are taking a different route, you may check out the others and see if they fit in better.

Little Sahara Sand Dunes

Know Before You Go

The Little Sahara Sand Dunes are part of the BLM which is the Bureau of Land Management. There was an entrance fee of $15 for the day and if you were staying the night/ camping, it was a little more. When you get to the visitor center, there is a spot for you to fill out a yellow card and a dropbox for your money. There is a part of the yellow card that you will want to keep on your dash. This is just proof of payment in case a park ranger stops by while you are exploring.

They have tons of camping spots if you are looking to camp out and spend a few days. If you are planning to stay the night, camping may be the better option because the dunes are located in the middle of nowhere. Because it is in the middle of nowhere, it is important to be mindful of how much gas, food, and water you have. Just be sure to plan accordingly. There is also a bathroom located at the visitor center as well as most of the other campsite areas.

What To Do At The Little Sahara Sand Dunes

Little Sahara Sand Dunes are fairly wide open for whatever you want to do. A lot of people ride ATVs and dirtbikes. Utah is pretty popular for exploring with ATV’s so it is fairly easy to find rentals. Our trip was pretty jam-packed so we, unfortunately, did not get the opportunity to rent some. But if you are looking for a rental option check out ATV Rentals Utah. They have a ton of options for your rental needs including trailers and tours!

If budget or time does not permit you to rent ATVs, you can always hike around the sand dunes to check them out. The sand can get pretty hot during the summer months so just be mindful when picking out your shoes. And make sure you pack some sunscreen since the shade is limited! Another fun way to explore would be to get your hands on a sandboard and go sandboarding. Some of the sand dunes in Utah do offer the option to rent sandboards but we did not see that option for the Little Sahara.

When To Visit The Sand Dunes

We went in September and I thought the weather was perfect. Sunny and in the ’80s! Some might think that is warm, but I personally love Utah’s weather. As an Arkansas native, I welcome the dry 80-degree weather. I am used to 90 degrees with the air choking you it is so thick and humid. HAHA

We also went on a Sunday about midday and it was not packed at all. It was really nice to visit since we were on our feet, we didn’t feel like we were in anybody’s way and could explore more freely.

Utah's Little Sahara Sand Dunes

The Sand Dunes are definitely something super cool to see and I highly recommend adding them to your list of places to see in Utah. I mean they are literally in the middle of nowhere in between mountains. It is just acres and acres of sand, but somehow there is vegetation! It is just mind-blowing!
