The Ultimate Utah Road Trip

We recently went on one of the most epic road trips! It was truly a trip of a lifetime and I am excited to share all the details with you guys here. Here is our Ultimate Utah Road Trip Itinerary:

Bonneville Salt Flats Utah Road Trip
Bonneville Salt Flats

Day 1

Day 1 we flew from Little Rock to Salt Lake City Airport. Our flight got there around mid-afternoon so after we picked up our rental car and checked in at the hotel we took off for the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Salt Flats are about an hour and a half outside of Salt Lake City. It is a fairly straight shot so the drive is super easy. This was by far our favorite stop of the whole trip!

Day 2

The next day we woke up and headed for The Little Sahara Sand Dunes. We played around in the sand for a little bit and then headed out for our next destination. Our next stop was to see the Pando Aspen Clone at Big Fish Lake. It is a colony of Aspen trees that are all connected by their root system underground and believed to be one of the largest living organisms. I actually don’t think I had ever seen Aspen trees up close and in person so it was extremely beautiful to see. While we were there we spotted some mule deer and hung around and watched them grazing. After that, we went to Richfield, Utah to check into our hotel.

Day 3

On Day 3 we woke up and drove about 20 minutes to the Mystic Hot Springs. These gave me all the hippy vibes! They are natural hot springs that flow over red rock formations into bathtubs. Soaking in these with views of the mountains was extremely relaxing! After that, we changed out of our wet clothes and headed for Bryce Canyon National Park. Visiting the national parks on a Utah Road Trip is a must! We got there with plenty of time to get a hike in and watch the sunset.

Day 4

We decided that we loved sunset at Bryce so much that we wanted to wake up and catch the sunrise. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Sunrise at Bryce Canyon is a must! After that, we headed back to town to grab a bite to each and head off to Capitol Reef National Park. Once we got there we spent most of the day exploring and even got in a little hike to Hickman’s Bridge.

Day 5

Day 5 we woke up and left Capitol Reef to head to Moab, Utah. We spent about 2 days in Moab, which was definitely needed. There are two National Parks there so you want a little more time to explore. We decided we wanted to do Arches National Park first. We stopped in at almost all the overlooks and did about 3 hikes. The first two were smaller hikes to see Double Arch and the Windows Arches. The third hike was a little bit longer and more strenuous to Delicate Arch. But, it is an absolute must if you can! It was insane!

Day 6

On day 6, we spent our time exploring the second national park in Moab, Utah which is Canyonlands National Park. We again stopped in at almost all of the overlook spots and did a short hike to Mesa Arch. Canyonlands is a little smaller but has some stunning overlook spots. The hike to Mesa Arch was fairly easy as well! After we got done at Canyonlands we stopped in Deadhorse Point State Park to check out the Deadhorse Point Overlook. This one is must stop in and see too! We actually came back for sunset because it was so cool!

Day 7

On our last day, we packed everything up and headed for the airport!

This trip may seem like a lot, but I promise it is not. Most of the drives are about 1.5 hours. Your longest drive will be from Moab to the airport in Salt Lake. It is definitely a trip worth taking though! We saw so many amazing things and got to mark a ton of items off our bucket list! I will be going into depth about each place so stay tuned for the blog post on our Utah Road Trip.

In the meantime, if you are looking for other road trip options, check out our Southwest Roadtrip Adventure that we did last year.
